Kootenay Christian Academy’s Student Services Department oversees the Special Education and Learning Assistance programs in the school.
Our team provides specialized support to students with diverse learning needs. We prayerfully design programs and learning sessions to meet the needs of each individual student. Every student is uniquely created by God and we are blessed to be able to help them in their learning. KCA students are surrounded by caring staff who will assist them in overcoming learning challenges and help them develop skills to their full potential.
Individual Education Plans
Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are developed for students who have received formal assessments and have been identified with educational designations, in accordance with Ministry guidelines and requirements.
School staff collaborate with families and outside professionals, that may include Speech-Language Pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, counselors, and Occupational Therapists, to develop individualized programming that reflects each student’s strengths and needs.
Within the school, students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally through targeted interventions, strategies, and supports. Teachers and Educational Assistants (EAs) work collaboratively to create inclusive learning environments and ensure that all students have access to the supports they need to succeed. Students applying for enrolment are considered on an individual basis. Each application is reviewed to determine whether the school can appropriately meet the student’s educational, social, emotional, and support needs within the resources and services available.
