High School

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

At Kootenay Christian Academy, we are proud to deliver the BC Graduation Program that is grounded in the BC curriculum. This program provides students with the British Columbia Certificate of Graduation, also known as the Dogwood Diploma. This same graduation certificate is granted throughout BC to all students who meet the BC graduation requirements. Core programming and some elective courses are offered in-person at KCA.

The bulk of a student’s academic course load is made up of core courses that are required for graduation. This program equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive beyond high school whether they are entering the work force or are enrolling in post-secondary education at college, university or in the trades.

Each morning begins with Daily Devotions in Homeroom, where students gather to pray, reflect, and learn together—setting a positive and Christ-centered tone for the day ahead. At the end of each week, our middle and high school community comes together for Friday Chapel. This is a special time of worship, teaching, and fellowship, where students are encouraged to grow in their faith, share the Word of God, and strengthen their connection with one another in a truly meaningful way.

BC Graduation Requirements

To fulfill BC’s graduation requirements, students must complete at least one elective in either Arts Education or Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST) at the Grade 10, 11, or 12 level. This requirement accounts for a minimum of 4 credits, though students are welcome to earn more through additional electives in these areas. The electives offered at KCA are geared towards both meeting graduation requirements and student interest.

Students must complete 4 credits in Indigenous-focused coursework. At KCA this is met through BC First Peoples 12, which not only satisfies the Indigenous-focused requirement but also fulfills the Social Studies 11 or 12 graduation requirement—earning students a total of 8 credits through one comprehensive course.

Electives

KCA is proud to offer a wide range of electives designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and help students discover their passions. Guided by student choice, our electives are shaped by interest and involvement, ensuring that the courses we offer truly reflect what excites and engages our learners. Whether it’s exploring the wilderness in Outdoor Education, building lifelong wellness habits in Active Living, unleashing creativity in Art Studio, or stepping into the spotlight in Drama, our electives give students the chance to learn by doing, connect with peers who share their interests, and develop skills that will serve them for life. With something for every learner, our program ensures that students don’t just prepare for graduation—they grow into well-rounded, inspired young adults ready to take on the world.

Online Choices

In addition to our on-campus offerings, we recognize that some students may wish to pursue specialized interests or advanced studies beyond our curriculum. We actively support these endeavours by helping students identify reputable online courses, navigate enrollment processes, and integrate external learning into their academic plans. Whether it’s through enrichment programs, dual-credit options, second language study or independent study, KCA is committed to walking alongside students as they take bold steps toward their future.

Partnership with the College of the Rockies

Dual-Credit Program: The Dual Credit Program allows high school students to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously. Through our partnership with College of the Rockies, students can take academic or career-focused college courses while still in high school. This gives students a head start on post-secondary education and introduces them to the post-secondary world while still at home.

Youth Train in Trades Program: Youth Train in Trades is a dual-credit trades training opportunity for Grade 11 and 12 students. Participants enroll in a Foundation Trades program (e.g., Carpentry, Welding, Automotive, Electrical, etc.) and earn Grade 12 elective credits while beginning their apprenticeship and technical training. Students can start their trades journey earlier and may receive Level 1 certification from SkilledTradesBC upon completion.  * If students and/or parents are interested in more information about the Dual-Credit Program or Youth Train in Trades, they are encouraged to connect with Mrs. Gotaas for more information.

Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe. 1 Timothy 4:12

Each family has the freedom to make educational choices, and we sincerely appreciate your decision to entrust KCA with your child’s learning journey. As a small but growing school, we are committed to offering the most enriching program possible—one shaped by the unique gifts and passions of our dedicated teachers. While we may not have the scale or resources of a larger school, our heart remains firmly rooted in what matters most: loving our students well and consistently pointing them to Jesus through the joys, challenges, and growth that each school year brings.
